Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps would like to present their 2019 program, “The Greatest Hero”

We invite the audience into a world where the lives of heroes continue to be fast paced and full of energy. We see these heroes take shape and develop in ways we are all so familiar with, but also in ways we wouldn’t expect. We explore the idea that despite the strength and vitality we see from our beloved heroes, their surroundings and circumstances could be taking a toll on their well being. Being the symbol of peace is no easy task and from beginning to end we share with everyone the story of how our hero became the greatest hero!

Music Selections Include:
Incredits 2 - Michael Giacchino
Spider-Man: Homecoming Suite - Michael Giacchino

Thank you to Kaho Akiya for the poster design!

Stolen Equipment

1/25/2019

On January 21st a major blow was struck to a non-profit youth group when robbers stole roughly $25,000 worth of equipment. The robbers rented a storage unit at A-American self storage in Santa Fe Springs, California. On January 21st they entered their unit and closed the door concealing their work. Using hammers, they broke through the walls of their rented unit to raid 6 adjoining units in order to steal the contents. Upon entering Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps storage unit, they found 2 thump subwoofers, 2 Mackie SP1530s, 1 Yamaha 32 channel mixer, 3 Adams timpani, a djembe, a Remo bass drum and a haul of miscellaneous percussion hardware. They returned later in the evening, cutting the lock on Impulse’s storage unit in order to load the large equipment into their vehicles and fled the scene. Police are currently investigating the robbery.

Since 1999 Impulse Drum and Bugle corps has provided a safe, fun, youth centered summer marching experience to students ranging from ages 14 to 21. They are a 501c3 non-profit and most of their staff and support are volunteers. They have traveled the nation competing in Drum Corps International, obtaining many awards and a national championship in 2006. Impulse has served thousands of talented young musicians in its 20 years of existence.

Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps is a relatively small musical group every piece of equipment plays an important role. Aaron Zeilinger is an Alumni of the organization and currently serves as the Director. He has this to say about the incident, “The current Impulse family will be hit hard by this loss. The equipment that was stolen we were working on selling to support our members and repair some needed items in the corps. As with all trials, I know the Impulse family will come together and we will make sure our 2019 members will still have an educational, exciting and zany experience this summer.”

Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps will do the best it can to raise funds for the missing equipment but they need a little assistance. They have currently set up a GoFundMe for any donations that could help them rebuild from this incident. https://www.gofundme.com/help-impulse-replace-stolen-equipment?member=1556496

Impulse Announces 2018 Drum Majors

2/1/2018

We are happy to announce our 2018 Drum Majors!

Our main drum major will be David Alvarado Giottonini who is our returning drum major. David has provided great leadership to this corps in the 2017 season. We were happy to send him to the DCI drum major leadership Seminar, led by Hall of Fame member Gene Monterastelli, and he implemented many of the ideals for us and lessons learned through that experience. We are happy to have him lead this corps for its historic 20th anniversary.

Kaz Akers, who is new to this season will be our assistant drum major. He came to us with a determination and passion for conducting a drum and bugle corps. Kaz, currently attends Edison High School, has provided dedicated leadership to his band program. He has been a consistent example of excellence among his peers.

We are excited to have both these drum majors join us and make this 20th anniversary great.

Remembering Bill Hassing, a dear friend to Impulse

11/27/2017

A message from the Corps Director:

It is with great sadness of heart that I announce the passing of a dear friend and a mentor Bill Hassing. Bill was a musician, performer, and dedicated to music education his entire life. He served as band director of Santa Ana High School for over twenty years before retiring. Prior to that, among other professional experiences, Bill was on the brass staff with the Anaheim Velvet Knights drum and bugle corps.

Bill was a generous person with people. He always had time to share his expertise or experiences with others. Bill had helpful advice that many have benefited from. Bill was a founding board member of Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps. He also served, in the corps early years, as a staff coordinator and tour director. Bill helped me, and many others, as a professional mentor, but more importantly, he shared his friendship and love of music and music education with me. Where ever love and music are, Bill will always be there.
-Raymond Santos

Bill requested that his celebration of life to be held at Santa Ana High School. He devoted so much of his life to Santa Ana High School, and Santa Ana High School would like to give back to Bill.

San Marino Boy Scout Completes Eagle Project for Impulse

5/23/2017

Jason Eriksen, 16, of San Marino Boy Scout Troop 359 never thought his Eagle project would involve renovating a 45’ equipment trailer for Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps.  Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps, based out of Buena Park, California, needed to renovate their aging equipment trailer which travels over 6,000 miles across the country during their show season with Drum Corps International.   “I feel really good helping them out,” said Eriksen.  “Their [Impulse’s] trailer needed a lot of work including paint, new carpet and lighting.”  A request of the organization was to improve the “green” nature of the trailer which Eriksen was able to accomplish with a 100 watt solar panel, a 24V deep cycle battery supply, and 10 LED low voltage lights to provide a well-lit and safe environment for the participants. “I set up a Go Fund Me account and was able to raise almost $2,000.00 for the project.  The trailer is now much safer for night time equipment loading, additionally we improved the interior infrastructure. I’m thankful I was able to help them make the trailer more effective for their music competitions.”

Mike Lopez, Director of Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps, is appreciative of Eriksen’s eagle project. “Having Jason step up to renovate our trailer for his eagle project is amazing.  In order to keep fees down for our members, we haven’t had the opportunity to raise money for our [equipment] trailer.  Jason agreed to take on this difficult project, complete it within a very short window and help the environment by installing “green” technology.  We are truly grateful for Jason, Troop 359 in San Marino, the Boy Scouts of America program, and all the volunteers for helping out our music program.”

Jason Eriksen is a junior at San Marino High and is a part of the High School Track and Field group as well as the Soccer team. Jason is currently a Life Scout and has been involved in a number of leadership activities in preparation for his Eagle rank, including serving as staff at BSA National Youth Leadership Training camps. Jason’s goal is to excel in high school and attend a top-notch college for a STEM-based degree.
