Mission Statement of IYAO:

IYAO (Impulse Youth Arts Organization)  is a non-profit organization dedicated to growing young people into future leaders through the arts.  We are committed to the education of our performers to develop the skills needed to entertain our audience and achieve new levels of competitive excellence cultivating social responsibility, strong ethics and the development of life skills through teamwork, entertainment and competition.

History

Impulse Youth Arts was established in 1998 along with the Impulse Drum and Bugle Corps with a vision to bring fun and competitive productions to audiences throughout the world. During its inception, Impulse has also aided in the establishment of many partner organizations in order to provide more opportunities for young people to experience the joy of performing in the arts.

Impulse at-a-glance:
  • 1998: IMPULSE Youth Arts Organization and Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps was established
  • 2000: IYAO (Impulse Youth Arts Organization) partners to establish San Diego ALLIANCE Drum & Bugle.  The group went undefeated in Division III during the summer of 2001
  • 2001: IYAO partners to establish So Cal Dream “all aged” Drum & Bugle Corps. Today the corps operates independently from IYAO
  • 2005: IYAO establishes PULSE Indoor Percussion Ensemble
  • 2006: Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps wins Division III Gold Medal at the DCI Championships
  • 2009: PULSE Percussion finished 4th place at WGI Finals
  • 2024: Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps wins the Bronze Medal at the Pacific Open-Class Championships
  • 2025: Impulse Drum & Bugle Corps wins the Bronze Medal at the Pacific Open-Class Championships and 1st place in Color Guard
  • 2025:  Impulse Winter Guard takes the stage again continuing on with the excellence that Impulse brings
